The one-off BMW M3 GTR, produced to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Need for Speed series, is based on the iconic E46-generation M3 GTR. This model is renowned for its rarity, as only a handful were built mainly for racing purposes. The vehicle showcases a lightweight design utilizing carbon fiber components, including the roof and hood, contributing to a reduced weight of approximately 1,200 kg (2,645 lbs). Under the hood, it features a high-performance 4.0-liter V8 engine derived from the BMW P60B40 racing engine, capable of producing around 493 horsepower and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque at 6,500 rpm. It is equipped with a 6-speed sequential transmission that enables rapid gear shifts, allowing the vehicle to achieve 0-60 mph in under 4 seconds.
In addition to its formidable powertrain, the special M3 GTR boasts advanced aerodynamic features, such as a rear wing and aggressive front fascia, enhancing downforce and stability at high speeds. The suspension system consists of adjustable coilovers, ensuring optimal handling dynamics on both road and track. Special commemorative styling cues, including unique livery inspired by the original race cars, have been incorporated into the exterior design. This collaboration between BMW and EA not only celebrates the heritage of racing but also highlights the fusion of automotive engineering and gaming culture.
