How to replace crankshaft position sensor on BMW E46 323i (M52TUB25)

Symptoms of a failing sensor:
  • Engine misfires
  • Difficulty starting
  • Check Engine Light on (code P0335)
Tools needed:
  • 10mm socket
  • Flathead screwdriver
  • Torque wrench
Replacement procedure:
  • Locate the sensor on the engine block behind the starter motor
  • Disconnect the electrical connector
  • Remove the 10mm bolt securing the sensor
  • Carefully pull out the old sensor
  • Clean the sensor hole and ensure no debris is present
  • Insert the new sensor (BMW part number: 12141438082)
  • Secure with the 10mm bolt, torque to 6 Nm
  • Reconnect the electrical connector
  • Clear fault codes with an OBD-II scanner
Note: Always use OE or high-quality aftermarket sensors for reliable performance.
