How to replace the valve cover gasket on BMW E46 325i (M54B25) engine?

Tools needed:
  • 10mm socket and ratchet
  • Torque wrench
  • Flathead screwdriver
  • Pliers
  • Valve cover gasket kit
Step-by-step procedure:
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal
  • Remove engine cover and disconnect all electrical connections to the valve cover
  • Remove the 15 valve cover bolts
  • Carefully remove the valve cover
  • Clean the sealing surface on the cylinder head
  • Install the new valve cover gasket
  • Reinstall the valve cover and torque bolts to 10 Nm in a spiral pattern from the center outward
  • Reconnect all electrical connections and reinstall the engine cover
  • Reconnect the battery
Note: Always use a new valve cover gasket and replace any damaged bolts or grommets.
