How to replace crankshaft position sensor on BMW E46 323i (M52TUB25)?

How to replace crankshaft position sensor on BMW E46 323i (M52TUB25)?

Tools needed:
  • 10mm socket and ratchet
  • Flathead screwdriver
  • New crankshaft position sensor
Symptoms of a failing sensor:
  • Engine misfires
  • Difficulty starting
  • Check engine light (code P0335)
Replacement procedure:
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal
  • Locate the sensor on the engine block behind the starter motor
  • Unplug the electrical connector
  • Remove the 10mm bolt securing the sensor
  • Carefully remove the old sensor
  • Install the new sensor (BMW part number: 12141703277)
  • Secure with the 10mm bolt (torque to 6 Nm)
  • Reconnect the electrical connector and battery
  • Clear fault codes with an OBD-II scanner
Note: Always use OE or high-quality aftermarket sensors for reliable performance.
